I R C  Warning
Just a reminder that there are "SOME" of the older IRC's that will expire December 31st.  If you have any question about some that you have, by all means take them to your post office for them to make a determination what you should, or can, do with them.  Please don't ask me .. I don't know !!

GERMAN POSTAGE
"Postage for airmail letters to destinations outside Europe from Germany is quite high and unfortunately exceeds 2 US $ (about 2.20 $ right now). That means that an American would have to send 3 green stamps in order to cover the postage costs for an SAE.
One way to avoid this costly procedure is to buy German stamps from somebody offering that service in the US or another country, but this comes with additional postage cost and fees for t he service.
Most recently the German Post is offering a so called "Internet Stamp" that anybody in the world can print out him/herself. Payment (among other alternatives more suitable for the domestic market) can be done via PayPal. You can print out the  stamps(s) on a plain sheet of paper and then glue it onto the SAE or use self-sticking labels.
Unfortunately the internet pages by the German Post  (http://www.internetmarke.de) are only in German and it will probably be too difficult for somebody not knowing the language to navigate through the pages. Nevertheless I just wanted to mention this
interesting alternative for creating  your own German stamps, minimum order of stamps to be printed out would be 10 Euro (13 $).
I am adding a sample picture of how these internet stamps from Germany look. Maybe the German Post will add an English language version of this new service if there is demand for it."

"QRZ DX - 30 years and counting
You must have noticed the heading on QRZ DX for 2008 "Celebrating 30 years of DX News."  As I begin the 31st year, I want to thank everyone who subscribes to QRZ DX.  Many of you have been with QRZ DX from the very beginning and have "suffered" through several editors and still stuck it out as each one found his "sea legs" so to speak. Putting together this information is more a "labor of love" than anything else."  It requires the Editor to "be there" every week to collect the information, do his/her best to make sure it is valid and then put it in a format that you can easily read.  The Editor isn't free to take-off anytime he/she would like and still make the deadline to get QRZ DX to you when you expect it.  Out of the 52 weeks this year, I'll take off two of them  - one at a time.  I'm not complaining, just stating the facts.  With my added duties as Editor of The DX Magazine and the DX Editor for CQ Magazine (responsible for writing a monthly column for them), it doesn't  leave a lot of free time.  I have no plans to "retire" yet and I look forward to seeing many of you at the various DX gatherings around the country in 2009.
A few weeks ago I mentioned that those still receiving QRZ DX by regular mail might want to consi der switching to the Email version.  You would receive it quicker (in color) and you would receive special bulletins between regular weekly issues. In these tight financial times, it would be a money saving method for both of us.
Email is only $25.00 f or a year versus the $44.00 for the regular mail.  I can make the change at any time and adjust your expiration date to compensate for the price difference."

Silent Key
Zedan Hussein Abbas "Abu Marwan"  JY3ZH

(The following report from Lenny, K5OVC and Franz, DJ9ZB)

"'Abu Marwan' JY3ZH sadly became a silent key January 20th after 40 years of hamming.  He was well known all over the world as he was the net control for the Arabian Knights Net on 14252.  He is a great loss to Jordanian and Arab amateurs.  'Abu Marwan' the Godfather to Jordanian radio amateurs will always be in our hearts."
